In the Sparring system, you can adjust the height of each wallband.
How much weight can a shelf hold?
This depends on the type of shelf, width and that the weight is distributed evenly and that the attachment fits the wall.
Elfa’s system has clear recommendations per shelf type and section width (45/60/90). For example, type: Wire shelf recommended up to 40 kg (45-60) and 30 kg (90), and melamine shelf up to 40/30/20 kg depending on width.

If you want a shelf that is both stylish and safe for everyday items such as books, tableware, baskets, choose a solution where you can adapt and move the shelves as your needs change. Think “multiple shelves with equal weight” rather than “one shelf with everything”. The Sparring range is an excellent choice for any room where you combine style with storage.
How high should you put shelves on the wall?
Put shelves at a height that matches what you want to store and how you use the room - and make sure you reach the shelf without it feeling “on the boundary”. General guidelines (which are often repeated in guides) are about:
Are open kitchen shelves practical?
Choose open shelves for easy access and a personal feel in the kitchen. For the best overall impression, it is important to be able to keep things tidy, otherwise the kitchen can quickly feel cluttered.
Choose more closed storage if you want to minimise maintenance and achieve a calmer look. A combination of open shelves and closed storage is often the best option in the kitchen, practical in everyday life and inspiring in its look.
How to style a gallery shelf?
Work with few things at a time, vary height, and leave air.
Picture shelves are often used to easily change motifs without drilling and create a flexible wall. A recurring recommendation in the context of inspiration is to mix sizes and not have too many, rather a few thoughtful objects than many small ones.
Let the shelf reflect your style - and dare to update according to the season. The gallery wall is perfect when you want to create change quickly (new posters, children’s drawings, small objects) without a project feeling.
How high should a parcel shelf be?
Guidelines are often around 170-190 cm from the floor, but adapt to the family’s height and type of outerwear. An extra lower hook rack can be useful if children need to hang up themselves, and you need space for longer jackets so they don't hit the floor.
